The 1951 Musical starring Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron and Oscar Levant. The music is by George Gershwin, with lyrics by his brother Ira, with additional music by Saul Chaplin, the music director.
The story of the film is interspersed with dance numbers choreographed by Gene Kelly and set to Gershwin’s music. Songs and music include “I Got Rhythm “,”I’ll Build A Stairway to Paradise”and “Our Love Is Here to Stay”. The climax of the film is “The American in Paris” ballet, a 16 minute dance featuring Kelly and Caron set to Gershwin’s An American In Paris. The ballet alone cost more than $500,000
Winner of 6 Academy awards in 1951 including Best Picture!

The story takes place in a kingdom of lions in Africa, It tells the story of Simba, a young lion who is to take his father Mufasa’s place as king. However, after Simba’s uncle Scar kills Mufasa, he must stop his uncle from conquering the Pride Lands and avenge his father.
The voice cast includes Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Moira Kelly, Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Rowan Atkinson, Robert Guillaume, Madge Sinclair, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin and Jim Cummings.

July 25th “The Help” 8:30 pm

The 2011 film adapted from the novel of the same name by Katheryn Stockett, is about a young white woman, Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, and her relationship with two black maids during the Civil Rights Era. Skeeter is a journalist who decides to write a book from the point of view of the maids, exposing the racism they are faced with as they work for white families. In February 2012, the film received four Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actress, for Davis, Best Supporting Actress for Chastain, and a win for Best Supporting Actress for Spencer.

The 2010 documentary follows two years of work by Brazilian contemporary modern artist Vic Muniz in creating art with the cooperation of scavengers of recyclables working at one of the world’s largest landfills, serving the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil. Nominated for the Academy Award for best documentary and winner of the best international documentary at Sundance, The film portrays the lives of the garbage pickers and their working conditions as well as Muniz’s efforts to help them to gain recognition and better living conditions.

June 13th”Moneyball” kicks off our 8th Season at 8:30 pm

Based on the book by Michael Lewis, the film is an account of the Oakland Athletics 2002 Season and their general managers attempts to assemble a competitive team. Starring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman, the film was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Actor and Best Picture in 2012.
