The film received praise from critics and the public, and won ten Academy Awards in its eleven nominated categories, including Best Picture. West Side Story holds the distinction of having won more Academy Awards than any other musical film

This is timeless and always significant in any generation, I’m glad my kids can see the violence that is real in any community such as ours who has gangs that abound round the corner, and like the movie crime in any form has victims that suffer long after the violence occurs.
